Post-genre festival at Kampnagel — Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, Ambient, Avant-garde
ÜBERJAZZ is not a jazz festival in the classic sense. Since 2010, the festival has dissolved genre boundaries, bringing contemporary jazz into dialogue with soul, hip-hop, ambient, neo-classical, Tropicália, and experimental electronics. Four Kampnagel halls are used simultaneously, and the audience moves freely between the stages — a single ticket opens all spaces.
The venue is Kampnagel at Jarrestraße 20 in Winterhude, a former machine factory and now one of the most important international production houses for free arts in Germany. The raw industrial spaces offer the festival an atmosphere that other jazz festivals lack: nothing here resembles concert hall conventions, everything evokes an open sound space.
In recent years, artists such as Moses Sumney, Kamaal Williams, Poppy Ajudha, GoGo Penguin, Adi Suleiman, Bilal, Kassa Overall, Saul Williams, Gary Bartz, Adrian Younge, Kahil El'Zabar, the NDR Bigband, and many others have performed at ÜBERJAZZ. The festival has earned an international reputation — also through media partners like ByteFM and hhv-mag.com.
The organizer is Karsten Jahnke Konzertdirektion GmbH together with Kampnagel. The festival is funded by the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media. District: Winterhude, Borough Hamburg-Nord.
From Thursday, November 19 to Saturday, November 21, 2026, the ÜBERJAZZ Festival will transform Kampnagel for the 16th time into a post-genre sound space. Four halls simultaneously, one ticket opens everything.
Sam Gendel & Sam Wilkes from Los Angeles will perform on Saturday, November 21, 2026 — the experimental duo blends contemporary jazz with electronic processing and is one of the defining voices of the current West Coast scene. More confirmations will follow over the summer and autumn of 2026.
ÜBERJAZZ sees itself as a festival that consciously dissolves the boundaries between jazz and neighboring genres. The curation deliberately invites a generation of musicians who work between tradition and reinvention.
The full program will be updated on kj.de and kampnagel.de.
Take the U3 subway to Borgweg or the S-Bahn to Alte Wöhr, then walk about 5–10 minutes. Easily accessible by bike. Parking at the venue is limited — public transport is recommended.
