Four-part cultural series from cabaret to gospel in the Hochwald
Nonnweiler is located in the north of Saarland, on the edge of the Hochwald Nature Park and just a few kilometers from the Bostalsee. Here, in a municipality with a good 8,500 inhabitants, the municipal administration has been organizing the Nonnweiler Kulturherbst for years — a compact cultural series with four selected dates between September and November. The idea: high-caliber art in a familiar atmosphere, far from the mass events of Saarland's major cities.
The program design follows the principle of diversity. The opening in September features classic German cabaret with Alice Hoffmann and her program “Torschusspanik" — known from radio and television. Two weeks later, a reading by bestselling author Arno Strobel from his psychological thriller “Happy Weekend". At the beginning of October, the Solina Cello Ensemble takes over with “Filmreif" — cello arrangements of famous film music. In November, the AfroGospel Voices provide an energetic finale with “Gospelpower".
Tickets are available in the municipality's online shop, via Ticket Regional, and at the Nonnweiler Town Hall. Prices range from €10 to €18 depending on the event — reasonably priced, so that families from the region can also attend the events.
What makes Nonnweiler interesting is its scenic location: the Hochwald, Saarland's oldest forest, to its rear; the Bostalsee — one of Germany's largest recreational lakes with Center Parcs — just a few minutes away. Those who attend a Kulturherbst concert can combine the evening with an overnight stay at the Bostalsee and go hiking in the Hochwald the next day.
The Nonnweiler Kulturherbst is a successful example of how smaller Saarland municipalities can organize a high-quality cultural program despite limited budgets — through skillful selection, regional networking, and the commitment of the municipal administration. The series has been established for years in the St. Wendel district and attracts audiences from neighboring federal states (Rhineland-Palatinate, Luxembourg).
Four evenings between early autumn and the beginning of winter. The organizer, the municipality of Nonnweiler, has deliberately kept the series compact: one event per month, allowing visitors time to engage with each artist. The dates regularly sell out — advance booking recommended.
