Ten kilometers through the Hochwald, four wine tasting stations — a culinary hike in the St. Wendel region
The Nonnweiler Weinwanderung (Wine Hike) combines the best that the northern Saarland has to offer: the tranquil beauty of the Hochwald and the culinary culture of the southwestern German wine regions. The 2026 edition is already the 4th iteration — a comparatively young, but rapidly growing format that already counts among the popular early summer events in the St. Wendel region.
Start and finish is the Kurhalle Nonnweiler at Hammerberg. The route leads approximately ten kilometers through the Hochwald natural landscape — a gentle, terrain-suitable hike over forest paths, past orchards, meadows, and small streams. Sturdy footwear is mandatory, but alpine equipment is not necessary. The route is also manageable for inexperienced hikers.
The special feature of this hike is the four wine tasting stations, each presenting a different winery from a different region:
Each station has its own charm: at one, beekeepers explain the world of bees; at the next, you learn something about the Saarland's DLRG tradition; at the third, the fire department shows its sociable side. Thus, the wine hike becomes a lively encounter with local club life.
Back at the Kurhalle, the Boulevard-Verein (Boulevard Club) and the Kolping-Chor (Kolping Choir) invite you for coffee, cake, and live music. A relaxed end to a delightful day of hiking — many participants stay until the early evening, exchanging impressions.
Nonnweiler is located in the northern Saarland, in the district of St. Wendel, on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The municipality has about 8,000 inhabitants and is surrounded by the impressive Hochwald landscape. Not far away is the Bostalsee, one of the largest reservoirs in southwestern Germany. For those unfamiliar with the region: the wine hike is an ideal introductory event — it showcases the beauty of the landscape at a relaxed pace.
The patron of the event is Mayor Dr. Franz Josef Barth. The hike is part of the Nonnweiler Cultural Autumn and is organized by the municipality's cultural office, with great commitment from local clubs.
The 4th edition of the Nonnweiler Wine Hike on Friday, May 22, 2026, invites you to a roughly ten-kilometer hike through the Hochwald natural landscape. Four stations with wines from Mosel, Saar, and Rheinhessen, organized by the Nonnweiler clubs. Afterwards, coffee, cake, and live music at the Kurhalle.
Organizer: Nonnweiler Cultural Office in cooperation with the Nonnweiler clubs. Patron: Mayor Dr. Franz Josef Barth.
