Concert evening on the Klais organ of the Benedictine Abbey Schweiklberg
High above Vilshofen an der Donau, a town in the Passau district in the Lower Bavarian part of Bavaria, sits the Benedictine Abbey Schweiklberg. Its monastery church houses a significant organ from the renowned organ-building workshop Klais. Since 2006, the Schweiklberg Organ Night has invited visitors annually to experience this exceptional sound in a festive concert evening.
The Organ Night regularly brings together top-class performers. Among the participants are the Passau Cathedral organist Ludwig Ruckdeschel, Cathedral Kapellmeister Maximilian Jäger, and other organists from Bavaria. The program spans various eras of organ literature, utilizing the sonic possibilities of the instrument in the acoustically impressive abbey church.
The Organ Night is more than just a concert: food and drinks are served before the performance and during intermissions, making the evening a convivial experience in the special atmosphere of the monastery. The concert is supported by the Benedictine Abbey Schweiklberg in collaboration with the town of Vilshofen.
With its long history, the Schweiklberg Organ Night has established itself as a fixture in the cultural calendar of the Danube Valley. It attracts a discerning audience that appreciates the rare opportunity to experience great organ music in an authentic sacred space.
