Vilshofen an der Donau
Vilshofen an der Donau is a town in the district of Passau (AGS 09275) between Deggendorf and Passau, at the confluence of the Danube, Vils, and Wolfach rivers. The historic town center is characterized by the baroque Stadtplatz, the Donaugasse, and its location directly on the river – those arriving from the west enter the historic inner city through the town gate.
The Donaugasse as a Festival Mile
During the City Festival, the Donaugasse, in particular, transforms into a 'festival mile of joy, music, and gastronomy,' as the city of Vilshofen describes the event itself. Live bands on multiple stages, local and regional artists, a beer garden at the Stadtplatz, along with Vilshofen and Lower Bavarian delicacies, make the festival a meeting point for the entire town.
Artists' Mile and Children's Area
A special feature is the artists' mile in the Donaugasse: more than 20 artists present their works in an open gallery format along the street. A children's area with games and entertainment provides a family program.
2026 – 1250 Years of Vilshofen
In 2026, Vilshofen celebrates its 1250th city anniversary (the place was first mentioned in a document in 775 AD). The City Festival is integrated into the anniversary program and is expected to be particularly elaborate in June 2026. The exact dates in the anniversary year will be announced by the city of Vilshofen.
Stadtfest Vilshofen — edition 2026
In 2026, the Vilshofen City Festival will be part of the grand anniversary '1250 Years of Vilshofen'. As in previous years, it will take place in June, following the opening of Lower Bavaria's summer festival season. A special edition in the anniversary year is expected – exact festival dates and the program will be published by the city of Vilshofen in due time.
The festival will remain true to its format of live music on several stages, the Donaugasse festival mile, an artists' mile with over 20 artists, and a children's area. The Lower Bavarian delicacies and the beer garden at the Stadtplatz complete the program.

By train via the Regensburg – Passau line (Vilshofen station). By car via the A 3 motorway (Vilshofen exit). The town center is only accessible by car to a limited extent during the festival; Park-and-Walk is recommended.
