Schützenfest with a Long Tradition
The Halstenbeker Schützenverein von 1886 e.V. is one of the oldest clubs in the municipality of Halstenbek in the Pinneberg district, Schleswig-Holstein. Its annual Volks- und Schützenfest on the first weekend of September has been the social highlight of the community for over 50 years — and a reliable meeting point for the approximately 18,000 residents of Halstenbek and their neighbors from Rellingen, Schenefeld, and Pinneberg.
Four Days of Programming
The festival traditionally spans four days, from Thursday to Sunday. From a marksmen's perspective, it is the most important event of the year — the Schützenkönigswahl (election of the shooting king) decides who will represent the club externally in the coming year. Around this, a classic North German folk festival unfolds with:
- Rides — carousels, bumper cars, Ferris wheel in Gustavstraße
- Festival tent with live music and beer service
- Shooting range for adults and children
- Lantern parade on Friday evening
- Brass music from traditional North German marksmen's clubs
- Schützenkönigswahl on Saturday afternoon
- Festival ball at the club's local pub
- Food stalls with bratwurst, fries, crêpes, and fish sandwiches
Halstenbek — the Nursery Garden Community
Halstenbek is known as the center of North German nursery garden cultivation — about 40 percent of all German nursery plants come from the region. The Schützenfest reflects this rural rootedness: no artificial staging, but genuine club work, community engagement, and a meeting place for generations.
