WüRG — Wülfrather Rockmusikergemeinschaft since 1993
The Wülfrather Rockmusikergemeinschaft (WüRG) e.V. has been the central platform for rock music in Wülfrath and the surrounding Niederbergisches Land since 1993. In 2026, the association celebrates its 33rd anniversary, and the annual open-air concert will be the anniversary edition. Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM on the traditional Zeittunnel site in Wülfrath.
Six Bands, One Long Open-Air Day
The concept of the WüRG Open-Air has been proven for decades: a long afternoon and evening with several live bands from the Bergisches Land and surrounding areas. Genres range from alternative rock and reggae to hard rock tribute acts — a balanced mix that consciously brings together several styles due to the club's character. Performance times from approx. 2:45 PM into the evening. The WüRG association will publish the complete 2026 lineup on its website in the summer.
Catering for the Benefit of the Wülfrather Tafel
A social component makes the WüRG Open-Air special: all catering proceeds go to the Wülfrather Tafel — a charitable initiative that supports those in need in Wülfrath. The food on offer includes fries, bratwurst, currywurst, pork neck steak, falafel, waffles, popcorn, pretzels, and coffee. Drinks in reusable cups. The combination of music and social commitment has been part of the festival's identity since the WüRG was founded in 1993.
Zeittunnel Site — Historic Wülfrath Area
The Zeittunnel Wülfrath is a historic industrial site — formerly used for lime extraction and processing — which now serves as a cultural open-air venue. A ban on glass bottles for safety reasons, no parking on site (public transport or arrival by foot/bike recommended). The industrial atmosphere gives the festival a distinctive character.
Wülfrath — Niederbergische Town in the Mettmann District
Wülfrath is a town with around 22,000 inhabitants in the Mettmann district (North Rhine-Westphalia), located in the Niederbergisches Land between Velbert, Heiligenhaus, and Wuppertal. Characterized by lime mining (Lhoist as a regional industry) and a small-town atmosphere, Wülfrath maintains its own identity beyond the nearby major cities. The WüRG, with its annual open-air, is one of the town's musical highlights.
