Four days of festivities at the Bogenstraße fairground
The Schützenfest Wülfrath is one of the larger town riflemen's festivals in the Mettmann district. From June 4th to 7th, 2026, the Wülfrath Riflemen's Association (Schützenverein Wülfrath e.V.) will host this year's event at the Bogenstraße fairground. Four days filled with parades, king's shooting, dance evenings, and family activities, open daily from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
With just under 21,000 inhabitants, Wülfrath is a smaller town in the Mettmann district (a region in North Rhine-Westphalia), situated between Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, and Velbert. The town is primarily famous for its limestone quarrying — the largest contiguous open-pit limestone mine in Europe (Rohdenhaus quarry) is located within the town limits. Its location at the transition to the Niederberg region shapes Wülfrath's identity: urban in infrastructure, rural-Bergisch in mentality.
The fairground on Bogenstraße is the traditional home of the riflemen's association. The festival tent, stage, shooting range, and fairground attractions all have their fixed places here. Its central location in Wülfrath's town center makes the fairground reachable on foot from the market square.
The program spans four days:
In the Niederberg region, Rhenish and Bergisch riflemen's traditions meet — a hybrid form characterized by a festival tent atmosphere, fairground attractions, and a prominent king's shooting competition. Unlike the purely Catholic Lower Rhine region, club life here is sometimes organized across denominations, making membership broader.
The 2026 Schützenfest runs daily from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM at the Bogenstraße fairground. Thursday features the opening ceremony, Friday a dance evening, Saturday the grand parade and King's Ball, and Sunday a high mass and festival conclusion.
