Weede is a municipality in the Segeberg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, southwest of Bad Segeberg. Söhren is one of its districts — a small, close-knit village community. Since 1971, the "Vogelschießenverein" (King Shoot Association), founded specifically for this purpose, has organized the annual children's festival.

A Tradition for Over 50 Years

The Söhrener Kinderfest follows a traditional sequence: In the morning, games for the three age groups — from "can walk" up to 15 years old. Winners are determined before lunch. Lunch is a communal meal, after which the village processes through Söhren to collect the new kings (children) and, since 2018, also the Emperor and Empress (over 45s) at their homes — a small, charming peculiarity. After the festival procession, there's coffee and cake, a children's raffle, a children's disco, and more games in the afternoon. In the evening, DJ music, refreshments, and dancing on the festival grounds.
