Traditional summer festival of the village community in Amt Leezen — a classic of Schleswig-Holstein club culture
The Vogelschießen is one of the oldest and most popular club customs in Northern Germany. A wooden bird figure — according to historical custom, an eagle or a dove — is mounted on a pole, and participants shoot at it with a crossbow or air rifle until it falls. Whoever takes the final shot is crowned King (or Queen) — an honor that enjoys the highest prestige in many North German villages and is awarded with an annual chain.
Neversdorf is a municipality in the Segeberg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein and belongs to the Amt Leezen. With around 500 inhabitants, Neversdorf is a typical Central Holstein village between Bad Segeberg and Kaltenkirchen. The Vogelschießen is organized by Dorfgemeinschaft Vogelschießen Neversdorf e.V. — a club dedicated exclusively to preserving this tradition.
The festival begins in the morning with a parade through the village, which opens the Vogelschießen. At the Dörpschün grounds, the welcome, children's games (sack race, egg race, target throwing — on this occasion, the children's shooting competition), lunch, and a communal dance in the evening follow. The title of King/Queen is contested in two categories: for adults and for children. Parents are asked to volunteer at least one shift at the game stations or in catering — a beautiful tradition of mutual club support.
On Saturday, June 20th, 2026, the Dorfgemeinschaft Vogelschießen Neversdorf e.V. invites you again to the traditional Vogelschießen at the Dörpschün. The festival starts at 10:00 AM and brings together adults and children for a joint competition for the King/Queen title — a tradition that has been a summer highlight of the village for decades.
Children's registration is directly via the community website (QR code or Google Forms link). All parents of participating children are asked to volunteer for at least one shift at a game station or in catering — volunteers receive additional food vouchers. The annual general meeting of the Vogelschießen organization already took place on March 19th, 2026, and determined the schedule.
