Traditional Autumn Fair in the historic old town of Rinteln
As the days grow shorter and the first mists cover the Weser Valley, the time of the Autumn Fair begins in Rinteln. For four days, the historic old town transforms into a festive meeting place for families, young people, and older guests who love the traditions of the autumn fair (Kirmes). The combination of the half-timbered backdrop and colourful showman tradition makes the event a special experience.
Showmen from Northern Germany travel with their rides: a Ferris wheel, dodgems, chain carousel, thrill rides, and children's rides provide variety. Food stalls offer typical folk festival fare such as bratwurst, French fries, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), crêpes, roasted almonds, and gingerbread. Sales stands complete the offering with sweets, toys, and curious folk festival items.
The Autumn Fair particularly benefits from the autumnal atmosphere: cool evenings, festive lighting on the rides, and the aroma of mulled apple wine (Bratapfel), mulled wine (Glühwein), and bratwurst create a very unique mood. Many regular visitors consider the Autumn Fair their secret favourite event in the Rinteln festival calendar.
The town of Rinteln presents itself in autumnal splendour in November. Visitors to the Autumn Fair can easily combine their stay with a city tour, a visit to the local history museum, or a hike in the surrounding Weser Uplands.
The 2026 edition continues a tradition spanning decades. The stalls open on Friday afternoon, Saturday sees the largest crowds, Sunday is characterized by a particularly family-friendly atmosphere, and the fair concludes on Monday in a relaxed mood.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late summer/autumn 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
