One of Europe's Largest Horror Festivals

Traumatica is a top-class horror festival — multiple winner of international industry awards (TEA Awards, Park World Excellence Awards), regularly ranked among the Top 5 best Halloween events worldwide. The organizer is Mack Group / Europa-Park, which operates Germany's largest theme park with its resort in Rust. The event has been running since 2007 and celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026.

The Concept

Traumatica transforms Europa-Park into a world of horror after dark. During the day, the park still operates in its normal family mode (roller coasters, carousels, themed areas), but from late afternoon, the Traumatica team reconfigures the entire resort into a horror landscape: fog-shrouded paths, blood-smeared zombies in the themed areas, special effects lighting, soundscapes. Over 150 actors in full costume populate the grounds — they interact with visitors, chase them through the themed areas, and perform elaborate mini-dramas.

Horror Mazes and Main Attractions

Known from previous years were, among others:
Grim's Funhouse — a grotesque circus world with killer clowns;
Unknown — a VR walkthrough on a crashed spaceship where visitors decide the crew's fate;
Tarot House — a haunted house ruled by Madame Monroe and her coven;
Cinema Macabre — a horror film experience with the premiere of "Rotters Attack!";
The Hill — a dark magic walking attraction about the legendary Night Stalker;
Murderdome — an arena experience where you can't hide behind a weapon;
Studio -13 — a casting production with a psychological component;
TAKEN — a mystery format with a story twist. An expanded list is announced for 2026.

20th Anniversary

The 2026 edition is a milestone — the 20th iteration. The organizers have announced that the format will be expanded with additional special mazes and an enhanced open-air production. An anniversary show will frame the entire festival, and special events for regular guests are planned throughout the season.

Europa-Park as a Stage

Europa-Park in Rust (Ortenau district, Baden-Württemberg) is Europe's second-largest theme park (after Disneyland Paris) with around 6 million visitors annually. Using the entire area as a horror stage is a logistical masterpiece — the park's architecture, themed worlds, and infrastructure are repurposed for six to eight weeks. In 2025, the festival ran from September to November (Fri–Sun and selected Thursdays); the exact dates for 2026 will be released in early summer 2026.
