Cross-border wine experience at the Sonnenberghütte with Palatinate and Alsatian winemakers — hiwe un driwe
„Tischlein deck dich – hiwe un driwe” is a cross-border Palatinate-Alsatian wine event at the Sonnenberghütte in the Schweigen vineyards. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 5 PM to midnight, the tables will be set – Palatinate and Alsatian winemakers will serve their wines, specialties, and stories at the distinctive viewpoint on the German-French border.
„Hiwe un driwe” is the Palatinate-Alsatian dialect expression for “here and there” and stands for the cross-border concept of the festival. The Sonnenberghütte is located on the wine educational trail and offers a wide view over the Rhine plain, Alsace, and – in clear weather – the Black Forest.
„Tischlein deck dich” combines Palatinate and Alsatian wine culture on a single evening. Palatinate winemakers from Schweigen-Rechtenbach and the surrounding area, as well as Alsatian Vignerons from the nearby region of Wissembourg and Cleebourg, present their wines side by side. The format is intimate, visitor numbers are limited, and the character is more of a wine evening event than a mass festival.
The Sonnenberghütte is a managed mountain hut on the Sonnenberg wine educational trail. During the evening, the hut and the surrounding area will be adorned with tables, benches, fairy lights, and stages. The view over the Rhine plain and Alsace, the atmosphere of the setting sun, and the joint appearance of the winemakers make the evening a distinctive summer experience.
Palatinate and Alsatian wines will be served at the tables – Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, Sekt, and Crémants. The cuisine combines Palatinate and Alsatian specialties: Flammkuchen, Saumagen, Bäckaoffe, Choucroute, cheese platters. A culinary synthesis that brings the “hiwe un driwe” concept to the plate.
Schweigen-Rechtenbach is the southernmost village on the German Wine Route and marks its beginning with the iconic German Wine Gate (1936). The community thrives on viticulture and cross-border traffic to Wissembourg in neighboring Alsace. „Tischlein deck dich” is a format that culturally and touristically utilizes the village's special geographical situation – the wine border region as an experience.
