Summer Kirmes with simultaneous Stadtfest – a joint summer highlight for years
Mülheim-Kärlich, the twin city with around 11,000 inhabitants located between Koblenz and Andernach in the Mayen-Koblenz district, traditionally celebrates its summer Kirmes in August. A special feature in recent years: the Kirmes and Stadtfest coincide, meaning both events are celebrated on the same weekend – a format that increases the visibility of both and attracts a larger audience.
In 2026, the Kirmes will run from August 14 to 17 (Friday to Monday). The Stadtfest takes place on Saturday, August 16, thus overlapping the Kirmes with additional program offerings. The city center of Mülheim-Kärlich becomes the festival grounds: festival tents, stages, market stalls from local clubs, and a ride area will be set up in the squares and streets.
The Kirmes itself follows the classic Rhenish Volksfest (folk festival) format: carousels, dodgems, children's rides, food stalls with bratwurst, fries, gingerbread hearts, and cotton candy, a beer stand or festival tent with local beer (often Königsbacher or Kärlicher Pils), and a stage for live music in the evening. Over four days, this creates a continuous festival program that appeals to both families during the day and partygoers in the evening.
The Stadtfest on Saturday brings additional program points: the city's clubs present themselves with stands, cultural contributions, culinary offerings, and interactive activities. There are often stage performances by local bands, dance groups, choirs, and youth groups. The character is social and integrative: the city community meets, new citizens get to know long-time residents, and clubs recruit members.
Mülheim-Kärlich is conveniently located: directly on the A 61 motorway, with its own train connection, and in close proximity to Koblenz and Andernach. This makes the summer weekend an attraction for visitors from the entire metropolitan area.
The 2026 edition continues the multi-year tradition of celebrating the Kirmes and Stadtfest on the same weekend. The city of Mülheim-Kärlich communicates the program via its website and the local press.
