Theatre at the former troop location

The Theatersommer Altes Lager is one of the most exciting summer stages in Brandenburg's Fläming region. The venue is the Kulturzentrum DAS HAUS at Kastanienallee 21, right in the heart of Altes Lager, a district of Niedergörsdorf. Before 1990, the building served as a theatre and cultural centre for the Soviet troops stationed here — today, it is one of the most vibrant independent cultural venues in the Teltow-Fläming district. Visitors enter a place with a dual history: outwardly robust and functional, inwardly inviting and culturally sophisticated.

What is Theatersommer?

Rather than a single festival weekend, Theatersommer is conceived as a series of guest performances between June and September. Renowned independent theatres from Berlin, Potsdam, Senftenberg, and Luckau perform at DAS HAUS — some in the main hall, others in the courtyard if the weather is good. The repertoire ranges from classical drama to comedy, fairy tales, and contemporary productions with political relevance.

In addition to the theatre performances, 2026 will also feature musical highlights:

• Stern-Combo Meissen — the East German rock legends come to DAS HAUS for a concert
• Bigband Tent Fools — Farewell Concert on June 14, 2026: After 30 years, the regional big band bids farewell with a final performance

Why this location resonates

Altes Lager was a military site from 1900 to 1992 — first Prussian, then Wehrmacht, then Soviet. After the withdrawal of the CIS troops in 1992, the settlement transformed into a civilian area with housing, businesses, and cultural spaces. DAS HAUS symbolizes this repurposing: a theatre hall as a civilian response to a military past. You can feel it in every performance — the setting is part of the programme.

Niedergörsdorf is located in the southern part of Brandenburg, between Jüterbog and Treuenbrietzen, in a region known as the Hoher Fläming Nature Park — rolling hills, extensive forests, castle ruins.
