About Herbstspektakel Frankenthal

The Herbstspektakel transforms Frankenthal's city centre into a five-day open-air stage every year at the end of September/beginning of October. On the town hall square and in the adjacent pedestrian zones, brass bands, rock, Schlager, and DJ sets meet a classic autumn market with rides, a beer garden, and regional specialities. The date is based on German Unity Day, giving the festival its special blend of Volksfest (popular festival) atmosphere and civic celebration. Families can enjoy a packed children's programme with pumpkin carving and face painting from Wednesday to Friday. On the first Saturday of the festival, the town hall square becomes the Day of Associations, and October 3rd is dedicated to the traditional International Festival with Sunday shopping.

The Herbstspektakel Frankenthal is the largest city centre festival in this Palatinate town and is considered an important season finale before the start of the pre-Christmas period. For five days, the city of Frankenthal, the retail association, and numerous clubs use the central town hall square, Speyerer Straße, and the adjacent squares for a diverse open-air programme.

Musically, the festival covers an unusually wide range: brass bands and brass ensembles alternate with cover bands, rock and Schlager groups, and DJ sets. The main stage on the town hall square is active on all five festival days, supplemented by smaller venues and mobile walking acts in the shopping streets.

Programme Highlights

The first Saturday of the festival is traditionally themed Day of Associations: from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, around forty sports, cultural, and aid organisations present their work on the town hall square. October 3rd is dedicated to the International Festival, which will take place for the 32nd time in 2026, combining multicultural stage performances with food from around the world. In parallel, retailers open for Sunday shopping from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Family and Children's Programme

From Wednesday to Friday, the programme is specifically aimed at families: pumpkin carving, face painting, craft stations, and small interactive activities transform the town hall square into a large play area in the afternoons. The autumn market with rides, classic carousels, and sweet stalls is open throughout.

Culinary Delights and Beer Garden

The central beer garden on the town hall square is operated in cooperation with local restaurateurs. Palatinate specialities such as Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), and Dampfnudeln (sweet steamed buns) are served alongside international dishes, which on October 3rd, during the International Festival, cover the entire spectrum from African stews to Latin American empanadas.

Herbstspektakel Frankenthal — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Herbstspektakel runs from Tuesday, September 29 to Saturday, October 3, 2026. A central open-air stage on the town hall square features a changing programme of genres over all five days, from brass bands on family afternoons to cover bands in the evening. Additionally, the autumn market with rides and a beer garden, as well as stalls from associations, will be open. The highlight is October 3rd with the 32nd International Festival and a Sunday shopping event throughout the city centre.

The 2026 programme follows the established key points of previous years and integrates German Unity Day as the grand finale. The exact stage programme will be published by the organiser in late summer 2026 in a flyer and on the city's website.

Admission is free on all five days. Within the festival area, the usual security regulations for large events apply, with bag checks at the entrance to the town hall square.
