Five-day city centre festival around German Unity Day with stage music, autumn market, and International Festival on the town hall square.
The Herbstspektakel Frankenthal is the largest city centre festival in this Palatinate town and is considered an important season finale before the start of the pre-Christmas period. For five days, the city of Frankenthal, the retail association, and numerous clubs use the central town hall square, Speyerer Straße, and the adjacent squares for a diverse open-air programme.
Musically, the festival covers an unusually wide range: brass bands and brass ensembles alternate with cover bands, rock and Schlager groups, and DJ sets. The main stage on the town hall square is active on all five festival days, supplemented by smaller venues and mobile walking acts in the shopping streets.
The first Saturday of the festival is traditionally themed Day of Associations: from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, around forty sports, cultural, and aid organisations present their work on the town hall square. October 3rd is dedicated to the International Festival, which will take place for the 32nd time in 2026, combining multicultural stage performances with food from around the world. In parallel, retailers open for Sunday shopping from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
From Wednesday to Friday, the programme is specifically aimed at families: pumpkin carving, face painting, craft stations, and small interactive activities transform the town hall square into a large play area in the afternoons. The autumn market with rides, classic carousels, and sweet stalls is open throughout.
The central beer garden on the town hall square is operated in cooperation with local restaurateurs. Palatinate specialities such as Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), and Dampfnudeln (sweet steamed buns) are served alongside international dishes, which on October 3rd, during the International Festival, cover the entire spectrum from African stews to Latin American empanadas.
The 2026 programme follows the established key points of previous years and integrates German Unity Day as the grand finale. The exact stage programme will be published by the organiser in late summer 2026 in a flyer and on the city's website.
Admission is free on all five days. Within the festival area, the usual security regulations for large events apply, with bag checks at the entrance to the town hall square.
