Festival Tradition by the Pond

The Teich- und Anlagenfest Geringswalde – or Teichfest for short – has been part of the identity of this small town in Mittelsachsen for decades. Geringswalde, in the Mittelsachsen district, developed from a monastic town and boasts a green festival meadow in the heart of the town with its central pond and surrounding parklands. This is where the cultural highlight of the year takes place on the last weekend of August.

The festival weekend combines a classic Volksfest with musical highlights:

  • Friday, 5:00 PM — Opening of the mobile funfair with rides like Screaming Swinger, Bumper Cars, Roller Coaster, Trampoline, Rocket Flyer, and Children's Carousel
  • Friday, 7:00 PMLantern Procession around the decorated pond (7th edition), accompanied by music
  • Saturday — Model boat and aircraft shows, children's program «Tatü Tata, the Fire Brigade is Here» (3:00–4:30 PM)
  • Saturday Evening, 9:00 PM«90s Mega Show» with Joe Eimer & die Skrupellosen and the party band Real Culture from Halle
  • Sunday — Family Day with morning pint, stage program, club activities

Geringswalde, Monastery, and Folk Tradition

Geringswalde was founded in the 12th century around a Benedictine convent. Today, the small town in the Mittelsachsen district is primarily known for its pottery tradition and the annual Teichfest. In the state of Saxony, the festival is a classic example of the vibrant tradition of small-town Volksfests – supported by clubs, showmen, and the local community.
