147th Spring Festival in Werder (Havel)
The Baumblütenfest in Werder (Havel) has been celebrated since 1879 — making it one of the oldest and most traditional folk festivals in Germany. The occasion was originally the fruit blossom, which gives the entire Havelland region southwest of Berlin its characteristic spring character: Werder has lived from fruit cultivation (sweet cherries, sour cherries, plums, strawberries) for centuries and has also made a name for itself regionally with the annual festival.
The Baumblütenfest operates on three parallel strands:
This mix of old fruit-growing tradition (courtyards), classic funfair (rummel), and city festival (city center) makes the Baumblütenfest unique and explains the estimated 300,000 to 500,000 visitors per edition.
The highlight is the parade on May 2 with the reigning Blossom Queen — a tradition maintained for decades, personifying the fruit blossom season. On Saturday evening around 10 PM, the grand fireworks display takes place at the Partytower in the city center; several stages keep the live music program going until the late hours.
Werder (Havel) is a small medium-sized town in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, located at the transition of the Havel river to the Glindowsee lake, with a historic island old town and extensive fruit-growing landscapes on the outskirts. Those visiting the Baumblütenfest should plan a walk across the island or a boat trip on the Havel — the festival and the city complement each other.
The organizer is Veranstaltungsgesellschaft Werder (Havel) mbH (Managing Director: Christian Große). The festival is financed by municipal funds, stall fees, and regional sponsorship. Those interested in sponsorship can find information on baumbluetenfest.de.
The 2026 Baumblütenfest — the 147th edition — takes place from Saturday, April 25, to Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Werder (Havel). The organizer is Veranstaltungsgesellschaft Werder (Havel) mbH. The festival runs in three parallel strands: Fruit and garden courtyards are open from Apr 25 to May 3; the funfair at the Hartplatz with a classic folk festival funfair (Ferris wheel, bumper cars, roller coaster) runs from Apr 29 to May 3; the folk festival in the city center with several stages, live music, gastronomic stands, and family activities runs from May 1 to 3. The highlight is the parade on Saturday, May 2, with the reigning Blossom Queen through the city center, followed by a grand fireworks display at the Partytower around 10 PM. As in previous years, around 300,000 to 500,000 visitors are expected over the nine days.
