Historical Jahrmarkt in Flecken Greene with over 290 editions of tradition
The Greener Jahrmarkt is one of the oldest Jahrmarkt traditions in Lower Saxony. With over 290 editions, the festival in Flecken Greene is one of the most traditional events in the region. The exact beginnings are lost in the mists of history, but one thing is clear: for generations, the Greener Jahrmarkt was the most important market in the wide surrounding area — a meeting place for trade, crafts, and socialising.
For centuries, Greene was an independent Flecken with market rights. Since the municipal reform in 2013, the town has been part of the city of Einbeck. Previously, Greene was part of the municipality of Kreiensen. The historical identity of the place remains alive with the Jahrmarkt — a piece of cultural heritage that is being continued unbroken.
The Greener Jahrmarkt combines classic market culture with a modern Volksfest character. Craft stalls present products from regional manufacturers, showmen offer rides for young and old, and food stalls provide culinary catering. The manageable size of the market creates a family-friendly atmosphere that clearly distinguishes it from large city festivals.
A special feature is the satellite exhibition of the StadtMuseum Einbeck, which makes the Greener Jahrmarkt a place of cultural encounter. Changing exhibitions on the history of the market, the region, and the Flecken bring historical knowledge directly to the festival visitors.
The Greener Jahrmarkt traditionally takes place at the beginning of October — shortly before the large Einbecker Eulenfest, which fills the second weekend of October. For the residents of Flecken Greene and the surrounding villages, the market is an important event that strengthens the community and also attracts guests from further afield.
The exact dates for the 2026 edition will be announced soon through the official channels of the City of Einbeck. Traditionally, the Greener Jahrmarkt takes place on the first weekend of October, one week before the Einbecker Eulenfest.
The market offers an authentic piece of Lower Saxon folk culture in a historically developed environment.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the organiser in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Flecken Greene (District of Einbeck), 37574 Einbeck
Free admission. Rides and food at individual prices.
By car via the A7 (exit Echte or Kreiensen). Parking available on the outskirts of the town. By train to Kreiensen station, short walk.
The exact dates for 2026 have not yet been officially confirmed — traditionally, the market takes place at the beginning of October, probably from October 3rd to 5th, 2026.
