About Tauffest Rablinghausen

Right on the sandy beach of Weseruferpark in Rablinghausen, the Bremische Evangelische Kirche celebrates an open-air baptism festival. Adults and children are baptized with water from the Weser – personal, festive, and with lots of music. Afterwards, coffee, cake, and ice cream on the beach invite you to linger. The "Blessing on the Beach" is part of the city-wide baptism festival weekend at the end of May and is open to everyone, regardless of church affiliation.

Baptism Directly on the Weser

If you are looking for a special setting for a baptism – for yourself, your child, or your godchild – then the baptism festival at Weseruferpark Rablinghausen is a unique experience. Instead of the classic church interior, the ceremony takes place outdoors, directly on the sandy beach of the Weser. The pastor draws water from the river, or you can venture barefoot to the edge of the Weser. This idea has become a small Bremen tradition since 2023.

Blessing on the Beach – The Bremen Concept

Every year at the end of May or in June, the Bremische Evangelische Kirche organizes several baptism festivals in prominent locations in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The baptism festival in Rablinghausen has the subtitle Blessing on the Beach – a reference to the fine sandy beach that characterizes Weseruferpark in the western district of Rablinghausen. Everyone is invited, regardless of parish affiliation. You don't have to live in Rablinghausen to have yourself or your child baptized here.

Festival Schedule

The baptism festival begins with a joint open-air service, often accompanied musically by a band or a brass choir. This is followed by individual baptisms by the water. Families often bring a picnic, and many stay on the beach all afternoon. If the weather is good, coffee, cake, and ice cream are offered on-site. The atmosphere is familial and relaxed – a classic summer festival with spiritual depth.

Registration and Preparation

Those who wish to be baptized themselves or have a child baptized can register online in advance via tauffest-bremen.de or contact the information office Kapitel 8 directly. Anyone who simply wants to attend as a guest is also warmly welcome. Pastor Hannah Detken and the team from the Wesergemeinden am Deich will guide the baptism families individually.

Weseruferpark as the Festival Setting

Weseruferpark in Rablinghausen is a spacious green area with wide meadows, climbing facilities, a playground, and a gently sloping sandy beach. In summer, the park is a popular local recreation area for Bremen families. It is precisely this light, summery atmosphere that makes the baptism festival so special.

Tauffest Rablinghausen — edition 2026

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Bremische Evangelische Kirche invites you to the "Blessing on the Beach" baptism festival at Weseruferpark Rablinghausen. Bremen Baptizes on the Weser

The baptism festival weekend of the Bremische Evangelische Kirche will take place on May 30 and 31, 2026, at several locations in Bremen and Bremerhaven. In Rablinghausen, the sandy beach of Weseruferpark is the focus: here, the community celebrates "Blessing on the Beach" on Saturday afternoon – an open-air service followed by individual baptisms.

Who Can Participate?

Everyone is invited who wishes to be baptized themselves or have their children baptized – regardless of their place of residence or previous church membership. Guests attending the festival are also warmly welcome. Pre-registration for baptism families is requested so that Pastor Hannah Detken and the team have enough preparation time.

Program

The festival afternoon begins with a joint open-air service, followed by baptism ceremonies by the water. Music and an open café with coffee, cake, and ice cream complete the festival. Many families stay in the park with blankets and picnics until the late afternoon.
