The most important showcase for contemporary dance in Germany
Since 1994, Tanzplattform Deutschland has been held every two years at changing venues. It sees itself as both a showcase and a discourse forum: a five-member jury selects 10 to 13 outstanding works from the entire German dance production of the past two years, which are shown in concentrated form within a few days. For the German dance scene, the platform is the most important place for mediation to international organizers, festivals, and programs.
After Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin, and Mannheim, Tanzplattform will stop in Dresden for the first time in 2026. The venue is HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, which, with its iconic festival hall from the garden city settlement of Hellerau, is one of the most historically significant places in the modern dance movement. Émile Jaques-Dalcroze founded rhythmic gymnastics here over 100 years ago – since then, Hellerau has been closely associated with dance history.
The main program «Auswahl 2026» (Selection 2026) presents the selected productions. Accompanying this is «Plattform Plus» with discussions, workshops, artist talks, and industry meetings. The festival journal, produced in cooperation with tanzschreiber, provides reviews and analyses of the works shown.
Dresden is the capital of the state of Saxony and an independent city (AGS 14612). HELLERAU is located in the Hellerau district in the north of the city – it takes 20 minutes by tram from the main train station to the festival hall. Tanzplattform 2026 is an important cultural and political upgrade for Dresden's independent dance scene.
The 2026 selection brings together 13 productions that have shown particular artistic quality in the past two seasons. The jury opted for a mix of established choreographers and younger, less-known voices.
In addition to the stage program, Plattform Plus offers discussions, workshops, artist talks, and industry meetings. The festival journal, in cooperation with tanzschreiber, provides critical coverage and analysis.
After being hosted in various German cities, Tanzplattform will be held in Dresden for the first time in 2026 – at HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, one of the most historically significant venues in modern dance culture.
Take tram line 8 from Dresden Hauptbahnhof towards Hellerau to the final stop Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. By car, take the A4 motorway (exit Dresden-Hellerau).
