Angling Clubs as Cultural Bearers of the Upper Palatinate

In the vast forest and meadow landscapes of the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district, angling clubs play a greater cultural role than one might initially assume. They maintain streams, ponds, and small lakes, organize water management – and they hold summer festivals that have become fixtures in the village calendar. The Anglergemeinschaft Haberland in Kirchendemenreuth is one of these pillars.

A Festival by the Water

The Fischerfest traditionally takes place at the club's waters in the Haberland district. The program includes fresh trout from the charcoal grill, fish on a stick (Steckerlfisch), smoked carp, and bratwurst for those who don't like fish. Beer from a regional brewery, Spezi from the bottle, and coffee and cake in the afternoon round off the offerings.

Club Festival with Village Roots

The festival is small, regional, and without commercial ambitions. It thrives on the commitment of the approximately two dozen club members who manage everything themselves: setup, catering, displays, sometimes even a fishing demonstration or a lesson in angling techniques. It is precisely this authenticity that makes the festival a must-attend event for villagers and hikers passing through Haberland.

Kirchendemenreuth in the Steinwald Foothills

Kirchendemenreuth is located on the western edge of the Steinwald Nature Park, one of Bavaria's most pristine low mountain landscapes. Haberland is part of this natural landscape and is a familiar destination for walkers and hikers from the North Upper Palatinate region.
