Autumn fair with harvest parade, marquee, and rides in the village square
When the harvest in the Teufelsmoor is brought in and the days get shorter, the Autumn Market opens its gates in Gnarrenburg. For three days, the village square transforms into a lively place of entertainment with a marquee, carousels, food stalls, and game booths. The market is the social highlight of the Gnarrenburg autumn and brings together residents from the entire community and neighboring towns.
A special tradition is the harvest parade on Sunday, with which the farming families, rural women's associations, clubs, and schools of the community celebrate the completed harvest. Floats with harvest offerings, marching bands, traditional costume groups, and horse-drawn carriages parade through the village. The parade combines agricultural customs with a modern folk festival and is an expression of Gnarrenburg's rural identity.
A large marquee is erected in the village square. It hosts dance evenings, morning pint gatherings, and live music. Alongside, there are rides for children and teenagers, carousels, throwing booths, shooting ranges, and games. Food stalls offer bratwurst, fries, crêpes, candied almonds, and sweets, along with beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks.
The kickoff is on Friday afternoon with the first market openings and an opening evening in the marquee. Saturday brings full market operation with a highlight in the evening hours. Sunday is dedicated to family and the harvest parade. The festival ends on Sunday evening.
The Gnarrenburg Autumn Market is explicitly aimed at families. Children's carousels, games, candy stalls, and a clearly laid-out festival area make visiting with young children relaxed. Schools, kindergartens, and families from all over the Teufelsmoor use the weekend for joint outings.
From Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, the festival grounds attract thousands of visitors. The highlight on Sunday is the traditional harvest parade.
The harvest parade combines agricultural customs with folk festival atmosphere and is an expression of Gnarrenburg's village identity.
