One of Germany's most important Early Music Festivals

The Tage Alter Musik Regensburg have been held every Pentecost weekend since 1985 and are among the most renowned festivals for historical performance practice in the German-speaking world. Over four days, a dense program of matinees, afternoon and evening concerts, as well as late-night concerts unfolds. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 41st edition.

The City as a Concert Hall

A characteristic feature is the use of the historic sacred buildings and halls of Regensburg's Old Town – itself part of the World Heritage. Venues include, among others:

  • Dreieinigkeitskirche (Trinity Church) – venue for the major evening concerts
  • Dominikanerkirche St. Blasius (St. Blasius' Dominican Church) – particularly heavily programmed in 2026 with four concerts, acoustically ideal for vocal polyphony
  • Basilica St. Emmeram and Basilica zur Alten Kapelle (Old Chapel Basilica)
  • Schottenkirche St. Jakob (St. James' Scottish Church), Minoritenkirche St. Salvator (St. Salvator's Minorite Church), Ägidienkirche (St. Giles' Church), Niedermünsterkirche (Lower Minster Church)
  • Reichssaal in the Altes Rathaus (Imperial Hall in the Old Town Hall) – historic meeting place of the Perpetual Imperial Diet

Program Focus 2026: Johann Sebastian Bach

A festival focus in 2026 is dedicated to the keyboard world of Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons in four one-hour concerts – performed by harpsichord and fortepiano specialists such as Pierre Gallon, Bertrand Cuiller, and Jermaine Sprosse. Additionally, there will be a reconstructed Passion oratorio (BWV Anh. 169) with the Belgian ensemble Il Gardellino.

International Top Ensembles

The opening concert features the Regensburger Domspatzen (Regensburg Cathedral Choir) together with Musica Florea Prague. Other guests include Ensemble Irini, The Gonzaga Band, Oltremontano Antwerpen with the Tiburtina Ensemble, Les Épopées, the Verità Baroque Ensemble, and the acclaimed English vocal ensemble Stile Antico. The festival is complemented by concert introductions, an exhibition, and an international symposium in collaboration with the Institute of Musicology at the University of Regensburg.

Sponsorship

The festival is supported by the City of Regensburg, Sparkasse Regensburg, the Free State of Bavaria, and a circle of friends and patrons with over 460 members. It is considered a cultural highlight of the Pentecost weekend in Eastern Bavaria.
