About Regensburg Reads a Book
Regensburg Reads a Book — edition 2026
From February 23 to March 15, 2026, the sixth edition of the reading festival will take place. The focus is on the novel 'Lügen über meine Mutter' by Daniela Dröscher, which depicts growing up in a family where everything revolves around the mother's body weight. The festival places the reading under the guiding theme of shame and, for the first time, also includes the district of Kelheim.
Staged readings will take place on Thursday, February 26, at 10 a.m., and on Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28, at 7 p.m. each day at the Akademietheater Regensburg. The reading on February 26 will be attended by the author, followed by a workshop discussion.

One City, One Book
"Regensburg Reads a Book" is a city-wide reading festival where citizens, schools, associations, bookstores, theaters, and cultural institutions engage with the same novel over several weeks. The initiative is supported by the association "Regensburg liest e.V.", which selects a literary work each year that is read, performed, artistically interpreted, and discussed in numerous events.
The Book 2026
The focus of the sixth edition is the novel "Lügen über meine Mutter" by Daniela Dröscher. The book tells the tragicomic story of growing up in a family where everything revolves around the mother's body weight – a theme that the 2026 event places under the guiding principle of "Shame". For the first time, in addition to the city of Regensburg, the district of Kelheim is also participating in the festival.
Diverse Program
Over 40 events accompany the novel: staged readings at the Akademietheater, a reading by the author herself, photo exhibitions, workshop discussions, lectures, and discussion rounds in the city library, schools, and other cultural institutions. The festival makes literature tangible and creates a common topic of conversation across generations and social groups.
Tradition Since 2021
Since its inception, the reading initiative has become a firm fixture in Regensburg's cultural calendar. In previous years, works such as "Titos Brille" by Adriana Altaras were the focus of the shared reading.
