900 Years of Castle History
A document from the year 1124 first mentions Leuchtenberg, when Bishop Otto of Bamberg consecrated churches in the region. In 2026, the municipality of Leuchtenberg is celebrating this 900th anniversary with a grand castle festival at Leuchtenberg Castle, one of the most distinctive castle ruins in the northern Oberpfalz, located in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district.
The Castle Above the Oberpfälzer Wald
Leuchtenberg Castle ruins are visible from afar, towering over the town and the Oberpfälzer Wald Nature Park. It was once the ancestral seat of the powerful Landgraves of Leuchtenberg and is now a popular destination and event venue, hosting, among other things, the castle festivals of the Landestheater Oberpfalz.
Program of the Anniversary Festival
On Saturday, June 21, 2026, the program features the "Grand Night of Italian World Hits" with the band "I dolci Signori." On Sunday, June 22, 2026, the castle festival begins with a church service, followed by a musical morning pint with the Stadtkapelle Weiden and a festival afternoon with the Stadtkapelle Pfreimd. There will also be a separate program for children.
Clubs as Organizers of the Festival
The festival is supported by the municipality of Leuchtenberg and a variety of local clubs. The Castle Support Association, the Döllnitz Club Community, the Wittschau-Preppach Fire Department, the Gymnastics Group, the Motorcycle Friends, the Vohenstrauß Town Stage, the OWV, and the Women's Association provide food and drinks – from suckling pig and steaks to a coffee lounge with cake. This volunteer commitment makes the anniversary a true village and community festival.

The anniversary festival for the 900th anniversary will take place on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, 2026, at Leuchtenberg Castle. On Saturday at 7 PM, the "Grand Night of Italian World Hits" begins with the band "I dolci Signori"; admission costs 21 Euros at the box office. On Sunday, a church service at 9:30 AM opens the castle festival, followed by a musical morning pint with the Stadtkapelle Weiden, lunch from 11:30 AM, and a festival afternoon with the Stadtkapelle Pfreimd, as well as a children's program.
Numerous Leuchtenberg clubs are participating with food and drinks, including suckling pig, steaks, sausages, and a coffee lounge with cake. Access is exclusively through the castle's main gate.
