A Historic Moment for the Saarland
On May 17, 2026, SV 07 Elversberg wrote football history. With a 3-0 home win against Preußen Münster on the 34th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga, the club from the Neunkirchen district secured the first Bundesliga promotion in its club history. Bambasé Conté (10th minute) and David Mokwa (14th, 66th) scored for the Saarlanders, ending a 33-year drought for the Saarland in the top German division.
The Smallest Bundesliga Town Ever
With 12,800 inhabitants, Spiesen-Elversberg will be the smallest municipality to ever have a Bundesliga club. Coach Vincent Wagner, one of the league's youngest head coaches at 40, only took over the club for the 2025/26 season from Horst Steffen and led them straight to the top flight.
The Celebration at Rathausvorplatz
On Whit Monday, May 18, 2026, the municipality of Spiesen-Elversberg invites you to a public promotion celebration at the Rathausvorplatz starting at 6 PM. Several thousand fans from the entire region are expected to celebrate the Bundesliga promotion with the team, coaching staff, and club management.
The main street between Butterberg and Rohrbacher Straße will be completely closed from 4 PM to 11:30 PM. Food and drinks will be available on-site, and a stage program with players, awards, and music will accompany the evening.
More Than Just a Football Festival
The promotion celebration is more than just a sporting event for the Saarland. It represents a small state holding its own against larger locations and a region that has waited for this moment since 1. FC Saarbrücken's relegation from the Bundesliga in 1993. Politicians, sponsors, business representatives, and thousands of Saarlanders will gather at the Rathausvorplatz to celebrate what many thought was unlikely for a long time.
SV 07 Elversberg – A Club from the Depths
In the 2000s, SVE still played in the Oberliga. Via the Regionalliga, they moved up to the 3. Liga in 2022, became champions of the 2. Bundesliga in 2023, and now – after only three years in the second division – they are in the Bundesliga. Their home stadium is the URSAPHARM-Arena at Kaiserlinde, which is being modernized for Bundesliga operations.
