50th Süderelbe Half Marathon through the Altes Land

50 Years of Running in Hamburg's South

The Süderelbe Half Marathon is one of Hamburg's oldest running events – the 2026 edition marks the 50th anniversary. What began in 1977 as a regional popular run has become a firm fixture in the North German running calendar over the years. The organizer is the Hausbruch-Neugrabener Turnerschaft (HNT), one of the largest sports clubs in Hamburg's south, based in Neugraben-Fischbek.

Route through the Altes Land

The route is the hallmark of the race. Start and finish are at the CU Arena – a modern multi-purpose arena in the Süderelbe region. The half marathon leads via Francop into the Altes Land, with a turning point in Neuenfelde and back. In November, the Altes Land offers a special visual: bare, orderly rows of fruit trees, wide dike paths, autumnal light. The route is almost flat and well-asphalted – ideal for personal bests, but also for beginners.

Five Competitions in One Day

The program covers the entire spectrum: half marathon (21.1 km, officially measured, personal best and qualification times valid), 10 km run, 5 km run, 5 km walking competition, and 1.2 km children's run. This makes the date suitable for both ambitious half marathon athletes and entire families who want to have a sporting activity together on Sunday.

HNT as Organizer

The Hausbruch-Neugrabener Turnerschaft has been organizing the race since its first edition in 1977. Over the years, the HNT has built up professional logistics: distribution of start documents at the CU Arena from the evening before, electronic timing via chip in the bib number, marked routes, volunteer marshals, several refreshment points, and medals for all finishers. Those who register by October 28 will receive a personalized bib number.

CU Arena Neugraben-Fischbek

The CU Arena (Am Johannisland 2) is a multi-purpose arena opened in 2020 in the Neugraben-Fischbek district, Harburg borough. It serves both club structures and external events such as the Süderelbe Half Marathon, the Spring Hamburg Half Marathon, and other sports events. With its location directly next to the Neugraben S-Bahn station (lines S3, S31), it is excellently accessible.

Neugraben-Fischbek belongs to the Harburg borough, Hamburg's southernmost borough south of the Elbe. With around 28,000 inhabitants, the district is one of the largest in Hamburg's south and, together with Süderelbe, Heimfeld, and Hausbruch, shapes the local profile. The Süderelbe Half Marathon is one of the most important regular sports events in the state of Hamburg and ranks among the top 5 popular runs in Hamburg.
