About Halbmarathon Altes Land

On March 29, 2026, runners of all levels will start from the CU Arena sports complex in Neugraben for a spring run through the Altes Land — Northern Germany's largest fruit-growing region. A half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, a children's race, and a walking event are on the program. Nearly flat, well-paved routes through Francop and Neuenfelde, an official measurement, and a traditional organizer — the ideal season opener for Hamburg running fans.

Running Event in the Heart of the Altes Land

The Altes Land is Northern Germany's largest contiguous fruit-growing area — over 10,000 hectares of apple, pear, and cherry plantations stretch south of the Elbe between Hamburg and Stade. In mid-March, shortly before the blossoms, the Altes Land offers a unique running backdrop: bare but organized fruit tree avenues, marsh paths along dikes, and red thatched-roof houses in between. This is exactly where the Hamburger Halbmarathon organized by the Hausbruch-Neugrabener Turnerschaft begins.

Route Description

Start and finish are at the CU Arena in Neugraben-Fischbek in the Harburg district. The half marathon route goes via Francop, then into the Altes Land to Neuenfelde and back. The shorter distances (10 km, 5 km) and the 5 km walking competition share the last third of the route. The 1.2 km children's run takes place entirely on the sports facility. All routes are "flat and well-paved" — ideal for personal bests and beginners.

Distances and Start Times

Five competitions are on the program:

  • 1.2 km Children's Run — Start 9:30 AM
  • 21.1 km Half Marathon — Start 10:00 AM
  • 10 km Run — Start 10:15 AM
  • 5 km Run — Start 10:20 AM
  • 5 km Walk — Start 10:20 AM

Organizer with Tradition

The Hausbruch-Neugrabener Turnerschaft (HNT) has been organizing the run for years. HNT is one of the largest sports clubs in southern Hamburg and ensures smooth logistics: distribution of start documents at the CU Arena, signposted routes, volunteer marshals, refreshment points, and timing. All distances are officially measured, so personal bests and qualifying times remain valid.

District and Travel

Neugraben-Fischbek is located in the Harburg district, south of the Elbe. The S-Bahn station Neugraben (lines S3, S31) is the nearest public transport link — a five-minute walk to the CU Arena. Those arriving by car will find limited parking around the sports complex; the HNT recommends traveling by train.
