Europe's oldest and largest demonstration for the legalization of cannabis
The Hanfparade has been around since 1997 – making it not only the oldest but also the largest and most continuous cannabis demonstration in Europe. What began as a small protest march has become a major political and cultural event with a stage program, a demonstration march, international guests, and several thousand participants. 2026 marks the 30th edition, the anniversary year.
The Hanfparade traditionally represents three interconnected demands:
The day unfolds in three phases over 10 hours:
On Spandauer Straße, the Hanfparade sets up a Hemp Mile – information booths from NGOs, Cannabis Social Clubs, scientific organizations, patient associations, pharmacies, and industrial hemp producers. Additionally, there is a Medical Forum with lectures on medical cannabis and an Industrial Hemp Exhibition with products made from industrial hemp.
Following the partial legalization of private cannabis consumption in Germany in 2024, the Hanfparade has achieved part of its historical demand – but the demonstration remains relevant, as the Cannabis Act (CanG) is controversial, many federal states are implementing it restrictively, and the change of federal government in 2025 has triggered new debates. Therefore, in 2026, the Hanfparade will be perceived as a political demonstration with full force.
The 2026 edition marks the 30th anniversary of the Hanfparade. The motto is "Fair, Healthy, Enjoy!" – an umbrella for the three concerns of industrial hemp, medical cannabis, and legal recreational use. The organizer is Hanfparade e. V. with support from the German Hemp Association.
The meeting point is Saturday, August 8, 2026, 12:00 PM, on Spandauer Straße / Neptune Fountain in front of the Rotes Rathaus. Free entry.
