Höxter — Weser Town with UNESCO Heritage

Höxter (around 30,000 inhabitants) is a district town in the Höxter district in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, located directly on the Weser river. The old town with its Renaissance town hall and half-timbered houses is one of the most beautiful in the region. Near Höxter stands Corvey Castle, a former imperial abbey and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014. The festival takes place in the historic market square — framed by half-timbered and Renaissance architecture.

Whitsun as the Ideal Date

The Whitsun weekend (four days including the bridging Monday) is traditionally a strong weekend for tourism. Höxter and the Weser town region benefit greatly from the festival, as many day-trippers from Lower Saxony, Hesse, and the Ruhr area travel there — and after enjoying the streetfood, they can also take a detour to Corvey Castle or enjoy a Weser river cruise.

OWL Streetfood Scene

Streetfood festivals have become established in Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) in recent years: Höxter, Bielefeld, Paderborn, Detmold — almost every larger city in the region now has its own streetfood event. The Höxter festival stands out from the competition due to its short season (Whitsun), its historic backdrop, and its international mix of trucks.
