Franconian Wine Festival of the Historical Burschenverein in the Old Town
The Straßenweinfest Sommerhausen is one of the most popular wine festivals in the Franconian wine region. It takes place every year in June and transforms the historic old town of Sommerhausen in the Würzburg district, Bavaria, into an atmospheric wine mile. The idyllic wine village is located directly on the Main River, surrounded by vineyards, and is considered one of the most picturesque villages in Franconia.
The festival is supported by the Historischer Burschenverein Sommerhausen mit Trachtengruppe e.V., which preserves regional customs and traditional costumes. The street wine festival is an integral part of the association's event calendar and a meeting point for locals and guests from the region.
The festival begins on Saturday afternoon with a festive opening by the Sommerhausen Wine Princess. Only Sommerhausen wines are served at the stands along the alleys, accompanied by classic Franconian specialties:
What makes the street wine festival special is its familiar, unadulterated atmosphere: instead of large stages, the narrow alleys, half-timbered houses, and direct contact with the vintners characterize the festival. If you want to experience Franconian wine culture away from mass tourism, this is the place to be.
The 2026 edition of the Straßenweinfest Sommerhausen takes place from June 27 to 29, 2026. The festival opens on Saturday, June 27, at 4 PM with a festive ceremony by the Sommerhausen Wine Princess. In the alleys of the historic old town, local vintners will be serving their wines, accompanied by classic Franconian snacks, sausages, and hearty specialties. Musical entertainment and convivial gatherings in a half-timbered ambiance will round off the weekend. The organizer is the Historischer Burschenverein Sommerhausen mit Trachtengruppe e.V.
Admission to the street wine festival is free. Wine and food are paid for at the stands on site.
