Pentecost at Hirzeckhaus Bobenthal

Pentecost at Hirzeckhaus Bobenthal is a classic Palatinate hiking hut event. The Hirzeckhaus-Hütte is one of the many hiking huts in the Palatinate Forest that are open on weekends throughout the year and are managed by local groups of the Pfälzerwald-Verein or independent hiking clubs. It is located above Bobenthal in the southern Palatinate Forest, nestled in mixed forest with a small clearing as a seating area.

Pentecost Weekend with Hiking

Pentecost is traditionally a hiking weekend in the Palatinate. The hiking huts benefit from this tradition and open their doors on Whitsunday and Whitmonday for an extended festival weekend. The Hirzeckhaus hut is a typical example in this regard: from 11 AM to 6 PM, hikers arriving from Bobenthal or from neighboring hiking trails are served.

Club Kitchen

Refreshments are served from the club kitchen – usually traditional Palatinate dishes such as Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork, potatoes, and spices), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Pfälzer Wurstsalat (Palatinate sausage salad), accompanied by draft beer, Palatinate wine, and sweet treats in the afternoon. The proceeds go towards maintaining the hut and club activities.

Bobenthal and the Wasgau

Bobenthal, with just under 220 inhabitants, is one of the smaller villages in the southern Palatinate Forest, in the Wasgau region, near the French border. The village belongs to the Dahn Felsenland collective municipality. The region is characterized by its distinctive red Bunter Sandstone rocks, dense mixed forests, and a close-knit network of hiking trails. The Hirzeckhaus hut is part of this trail network and a popular stop on numerous tours.
