Glow of Lights in the Cloister Village

Hanerau-Hademarschen, a village of just over 1,700 inhabitants in the southwestern district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, is a twin community with a monastic past – the address Im Kloster 4 for the local business association bears witness to this. When the Sternenzauber-Markt opens on the last weekend of November, this atmosphere is given a special staging: fairy lights, glowing stars, and atmospheric decorations transform the village center into a small Advent landscape.

More Than a Market — A Staging

The market is part of a whole series of events that the Verein für Handel, Handwerk und Gewerbe Hanerau-Hademarschen e.V. (Association for Trade, Crafts, and Commerce) organizes throughout the year – from the spring festival and summer night shopping to the big Hademarscher Jahrmarkt in October. The Sternenzauber-Markt is the Advent highlight, combined with Candlelight-Shopping on the same weekend, during which the shops illuminate their windows and interiors with candlelight.

Stalls, Mulled Wine, and Community Life

The wooden stalls offer classic Christmas market fare: mulled wine (Glühwein), punch, children's punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), candied almonds, and cookies. Alongside these are stalls with crafts from regional providers – woodwork, felt, knitwear, and Advent decorations. The Hademarscher clubs (fire department, sports club, DRK, kindergarten) are represented with their own stalls and support community life with the proceeds.

Rendsburg-Eckernförde and the Kiel Canal

Hanerau-Hademarschen is strategically located between Itzehoe, Rendsburg, and Heide, not far from the Kiel Canal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal). Visitors to the Sternenzauber-Markt can combine their trip with a stop in Albersdorf (Stone Age Park), Burg in Dithmarschen, or the canal village of Westerrönfeld – the larger cities of Itzehoe and Rendsburg are reachable in 30 minutes.
