North German Folk Festival in Autumn

The Jahrmarkt Hanerau-Hademarschen is the traditional autumn Volksfest (folk festival) of the municipality of Hanerau-Hademarschen in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district. For three days, the center of the twin municipality transforms into a large fairground with rides, carousels, shooting galleries, and market stalls. The market attracts visitors from all over the region and is one of the popular autumn events in Schleswig-Holstein.

Program and Atmosphere

Three full days of Volksfest:

• Rides and Carousels: bumper cars, chain carousel, children's carousels, new attractions every year
• Shooting Galleries and Game Stalls: classic folk festival program
• Gastronomy: candied almonds, cotton candy, bratwurst, pizza, exotic specialties
• Gasthof Gosch at Autohaus Tonn
• Cocktail Tent near the Sparkasse – a popular meeting place for adults
• Disco at the train station on Friday and Saturday evenings

Sunday Shopping and Fireworks

Sunday is the actual highlight of the Jahrmarkt:

• 2:00 PM–6:00 PM: Sunday shopping with reduced prices and new autumn fashion in participating stores
• 9:00 PM: Grand fireworks display over the fairground – a festive conclusion to the event

Organizers and Tradition

The organizer is the Verein für Handel, Handwerk und Gewerbe Hanerau-Hademarschen e.V. (Association for Trade, Crafts, and Industry Hanerau-Hademarschen). The market has been held in this tradition for many years and is an important date for the local economy – the shops link the advertising campaign of the Sunday shopping with the crowd-pulling power of the folk festival.

Hanerau-Hademarschen is a twin municipality in the south of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The municipality, with around 3,000 inhabitants, is located between Itzehoe and Rendsburg on the Hamburg-Westerland railway line. Its location on this important main line has always made Hanerau-Hademarschen an attraction in the region – including during the Jahrmarkt.
