Advent magic on the Schlossplatz in front of Johannisburg Castle
The Aschaffenburg Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Lower Franconia and the state of Bavaria. It takes place on the Schlossplatz, framed by the Stadthalle, City Library, the Kunsthalle Jesuitenkirche, and the mighty Johannisburg Castle. The evening illumination of the castle lends the market a particularly festive atmosphere.
Around 60 stalls offer arts and crafts, food, and drinks. On the plates, you'll find bratwurst, roasted almonds, and winter specialties, along with mulled wine and non-alcoholic hot beverages. Drinks and food are served in reusable crockery.
Highlights of the market are the traditional large wooden Christmas pyramid and a nativity scene in the Franconian style with life-sized wooden figures. For children, there is a carousel, a nostalgic Ferris wheel, and a small train.
Daily, usually at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, local music groups perform – often brass ensembles and choirs. On December 5th, St. Nicholas visits, and on the first Saturday of Advent, the Lord Mayor officially opens the market. The Christmas market is organized by the Kongress- und Touristikbetriebe der Stadt Aschaffenburg.
