The Big Festival on the Bavarian Lower Main

The Aschaffenburg City Festival is one of the largest and most popular city festivals in Lower Franconia (Bavaria, district or independent city of Aschaffenburg). Every year on the last weekend of August, the city center around Johannisburg Renaissance Castle transforms into a huge festival mile with numerous stages, stands, and catering.

Over 80 Stage Acts

More than 80 local and regional bands, orchestras, and artists present music and cabaret on a diverse live program – from rock, pop, and jazz to dance music. The venues are named after sponsors and landmarks, such as the Schlappeseppel stage (after the traditional Aschaffenburg brewery), the Spessartwald stage, or the Heylands stage. This creates a dense, free cultural program throughout the old town over several days.

Johannisburg Castle Scenery

The striking red sandstone Johannisburg Castle on the Main riverbank forms the unmistakable backdrop for the festival. Between the castle, the collegiate church, and the alleys of the old town, there are catering stands with Franconian delicacies and international cuisine – a tour through Aschaffenburg's club and business life.

A Festival for the Whole City

The organizers are the Congress and Tourism Association of the City of Aschaffenburg. Clubs, restaurateurs, traders, and cultural groups from the region participate in the festival – the city festival is thus a reflection of the city's society and attracts visitors from all over Lower Franconia and the neighboring Rhine-Main area.
