About Aschaffenburg Artisans' Market

Since 1987, the Artisans' Market at Stiftsberg in Aschaffenburg has been one of the central summer events in this Lower Franconian city. On one August weekend, goldsmiths, ceramicists, glassblowers, textile and leather artists, brush makers, and other craftspeople display their work in the courtyards of the Sahmsches Palais, along Stiftsgasse, and around the Eulenbrunnen fountain. Free admission.

From the Castle Courtyard to Stiftsberg

The Aschaffenburg Artisans' Market was launched in 1987 and originally took place in the castle courtyard. Since 2020, it has moved to the old town: to Stiftsberg, behind the town hall, in the immediate vicinity of the famous Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church) – one of the most important Romanesque sacred buildings on the Bavarian Lower Main. The relocation has given the market a new, more intimate character: instead of a spacious castle courtyard, several small, intimate spaces are now used.

Venues – A Market in Several Courtyards

The stalls are spread across various locations around the Stiftskirche:

  • the two courtyards of the Sahmsches Palais
  • along Stiftsgasse around the Eulenbrunnen (Owl Fountain)
  • in the workshop of Andrea Müller (ceramics), who co-organizes the market

This distributed arrangement has a special effect: visitors truly stroll from courtyard to courtyard, discovering the works in a setting that resembles a large open-air art gallery.

What to Find

Around 40 craftspeople present their work over the two market days. Disciplines represented include, among others:

  • Goldsmiths and silversmiths
  • Ceramicists
  • Glassblowers
  • Textile and leather artists
  • Brush makers
  • Various other craft disciplines

A small gallery along Stiftsgasse displays ceramics and sculptures, a cappuccino stand in front of the Alte Münze offers breaks, a hospice group sells donated items and lucky charms from exhibiting artists, and an ice cream stand by Daddy Cool provides cooling – often the most important stop on hot August afternoons. Refreshing cocktails complement the scene, depending on the program.

As Part of "Summer in Aschaffenburg"

The market is part of the Summer in Aschaffenburg program, a series of cultural summer events organized by the city on the Bavarian Lower Main. The location at Stiftsberg connects the market with the Stiftskirche and the medieval city center – wandering between Schlossplatz, Pompejanum, Schöntalanlagen, Schloss Johannisburg, and Stiftskirche is easily done during the day anyway.

Aschaffenburg Artisans' Market — edition 2026

The 2026 Artisans' Market is scheduled for August 8th and 9th, 2026, and will take place at Stiftsberg as it has since 2020. Opening hours are 10:00 AM–6:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. Around 40 craftspeople will exhibit in the courtyards of the Sahmsches Palais, along Stiftsgasse, and in Andrea Müller's workshop. Free admission.

The city of Aschaffenburg (via mein.aschaffenburg.de and the city marketing Facebook page), the Andrea Müller Ceramics page, and the tourism portal tourist-aschaffenburg.de unanimously confirm the date August 8–9, 2026 for the Artisans' Market at Stiftsberg.

The format remains unchanged in 2026: around 40 exhibitors, three venues (Sahmsches Palais, Stiftsgasse around the Eulenbrunnen, Andrea Müller's workshop), a cappuccino stand in front of the Alte Münze, a hospice donation stand, ice cream from Daddy Cool, and free access.
