Westend – a villa district with a dense festival culture
The Westend district belongs to the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough and lies in the west of Berlin, between Olympiastadion, Murellenberg and Teufelsberg. Reichsstraße is one of its central shopping axes, surrounded by residential streets lined with villas and Gründerzeit (founders' era) houses. Once a year, it becomes the stage for the Reichsstraßenfest for several days – a Stadtteilfest with a family character that brings together showmen, residents, associations, shops, the district administration and craftspeople.

The festival follows the format of the classic Berlin street festival: small rides for children and teenagers, carousels, stalls with bratwurst, steaks, fries, crêpes, roasted almonds and cotton candy, plus beer, soft drinks and cocktails. A beer garden and several food stalls define the picture. On the parallel Preußenallee – a quieter street on the same axis – the Wein- und Winzerfest takes place: small family wineries from German growing regions present their wines, alongside crafts and art.

The Reichsstraßenfest typically runs from Friday to Sunday. Open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Live music and walking acts move through the festival site – small bands, organ grinders and street musicians mingle with the visitors. Free admission, everything is paid for on site.
