Templin and its Town Wall

Templin is the northernmost town in the Uckermark district, about 80 km north of Berlin. With just under 16,000 inhabitants, it's rather small, but it has a feature that has become rare in Germany: a completely preserved medieval town wall. The approximately 1.7 km long fortification from the 13th century encloses the entire old town with three gates and 52 Wiekhäuser (defensive towers) — a backdrop that has given the town its tourist profile for decades.

This very wall becomes the thematic focus of the town festival once a year: The StadtMauerFest will take place from June 19th to 21st, 2026 — traditionally on the 3rd weekend of the month.

Program Stations Over Three Days

The StadtMauerFest is spread across several locations in the historic town center, counteracting the tendency of many city festivals to concentrate everything in one place. Over the weekend, you'll wander through the following stations:

• Market Square: Main stage with live concerts by regional bands, dance, and comedy. In the evening, it becomes an open-air cinema.
• Templin Harbor: With a boat landing at the lock — events take place here by the water, often with a focus on children and families.
• StadtMauerLauf: Athletic run around the historic town wall for all ages — a course that leads through the medieval gates and past the Wiekhäuser.
• Soapbox Derby: Primarily a family highlight, with homemade carts racing through city streets.
• Duck Race at NaturThermeTemplin: Thousands of plastic ducks swim through the thermal pool. Charity race with live broadcast — one of the most popular program items.
• Market for Art, Culture, and Gastronomy: Stalls along the old town alleys offering crafts, regional products, and street food.

City Festival with a Connection to Identity

What's special about the StadtMauerFest: It's not a generic Volksfest, but is thematically closely linked to Templin's landmark. Guided tours along the wall, acting scenes in the Wiekhäuser, and special programs in the museum turn the weekend into a cultural city exploration with a festival feel — fitting Templin's tourist self-image as the 'Gateway to the Uckermark'.
