Three days of street theatre, acrobatics, and open-air concerts right on the water
Templin lies in the heart of the Uckermark—Brandenburg's largest contiguous natural area—surrounded by lakes, forests, and moors. The town itself boasts a preserved medieval city fortification with three city gates and a complete city wall, a rarity in Brandenburg. This connection between water landscape and urban core makes Templin a special place—the MKC Multikulturelles Centrum has developed the Wasserspiele from this, a festival that utilizes the lake and water location as its stage.
The MKC Multikulturelles Centrum Templin is located on Prenzlauer Allee and has been the town's most important independent cultural provider for decades. Concerts, theatre productions, events for children and young people, international art projects—the MKC programmes year-round. The Wasserspiele is the annual festival highlight, positioning Templin on Brandenburg's cultural map as a venue for sophisticated open-air art.
The concept of the Wasserspiele clearly distinguishes the festival from other city festivals: water is not a backdrop, but a stage element. Theatre productions are staged on floating platforms, on the shore, or directly in the water. Acrobatics utilize moats, bridges, and jetties. Concerts take place with the Stadtsee as their backdrop. Artists travel from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and across Europe—Templin is an established destination on the international street theatre circuit.
The Wasserspiele lasts for three days and three evenings. Programme focuses include: national and international artists in theatre, acrobatics, street theatre, and participatory actions. Street food, evening concerts, workshops for children. The festival is consistently family-friendly, without compromising on the quality of the children's programme—especially the theatre and acrobatics productions are suitable for all age groups. An ideal combination of Uckermark summer and high-quality open-air festival.
From July 17th to 19th, 2026, the MKC Multikulturelles Centrum Templin will transform the area directly on the banks of the Stadtsee lake into a three-day open-air festival stage. Artists from Germany and internationally will present theatre, acrobatics, street theatre, live music, and participatory activities—much of it staged on, over, or by the water.
Street food on the shore, evening concerts, workshops for children. The festival is family-friendly and combines sophistication with a fun factor.
