Advent market in the old town of the thermal brine spa — from December 2nd to 7th, 2026
Templin is located in the heart of the Uckermark, about 80 km north of Berlin. The town with just under 16,000 inhabitants has been a state-recognized thermal brine spa since 1998 and, with its almost completely preserved medieval city wall (1.7 km long, 28 Wiekhäuser), is one of the most beautiful historic town centers in Brandenburg. The old town with its market square, the St. Maria Magdalena town church, and the narrow alleys around the market is part of the "Working Group of Towns with Historic Centers in the State of Brandenburg".
The Templin Christmas Market has been held for decades on the first Advent weekend in the market square and adjacent alleys. Around 40 exhibitors — small traders, restaurateurs, showmen — set up their festively decorated huts. The offerings are classic and regionally influenced: wood carvings from the Erzgebirge and the Uckermark, ceramics, textiles, light spheres made of mouth-blown glass, felt goods, honey and candles from regional beekeepers, baked goods, gingerbread, stollen, bratwurst, mulled wine, punch, and hot chocolate. Unlike the large markets in Berlin, there is no mass trade here, but predominantly small manufactories and local actors.
There is a special hands-on program for children: craft activities, fairy tale readings, a carousel, and a small stage program. The highlight is the announced visit of Santa Claus — dates will be published in advance. The stage program is provided by school choirs, the town church's brass band, and local music associations.
What makes the Templin Christmas Market unique is its location in the completely preserved old town. The city wall with its medieval towers, the old half-timbered houses on the market square, the town church with its neo-Gothic facade completed in 1846 — all of this looks like a movie set in the glow of the Christmas lights. Those who combine the market with a stroll through the town will experience one of the most beautiful Advent atmospheres in Brandenburg.
Templin is well-suited for an extended weekend. The NaturThermeTemplin, located directly on the outskirts of the town, offers warm brine baths and sauna landscapes, ideal after a cold market tour. The surrounding area — Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, Schorfheide, Boitzenburg and Lychen ruins — is also worth seeing in winter. Overnight stays directly in the old town or in guesthouses on the Stadtsee lake.
The 2026 Advent market adheres to the proven concept: around 40 exhibitors in the market square and adjacent alleys, regional manufactories, beekeepers, wood artists. Open from Wednesday to Sunday with classic market hours — those who prefer a quiet visit should come on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon, as the weekend is significantly busier. Santa Claus has announced his visit as every year — the exact dates of his visit will be communicated via the city's website.
