May Festival on the Historic Market Square
The Templin May Festival is the traditional spring festival of the Uckermark town of Templin – always on 1st May, Labour Day. The venue is the historic market square by the town hall, characterized by its complete brick architecture and Renaissance town hall.
Medieval Half-Timbered Town of Templin
Templin is one of the most beautiful preserved half-timbered towns in northern Germany. The completely preserved city wall (1.7 km, built in 1287) with three city gates and several watchtowers encloses the old town – unique in northern Germany. With around 14,500 inhabitants, Templin is a central town in the Uckermark district; known primarily as a spa and recreational resort (Templin Therme) and as the hometown of former Chancellor Angela Merkel (parsonage in Templin).
Program Character
The Templin May Festival has the character of a classic 1st May city festival:
- Stage with live music – brass bands, Schlager, regional pop.
- Dance performances by Templin dance schools and folk groups.
- Children's and family activities: bouncy castle, games, face painting.
- Culinary stalls: Bratwurst, candied almonds, crêpes, beer, apple juice.
- Crafts market with Uckermark products (honey, jams, ceramics).
- Maypole tradition – like in many Brandenburg squares, a Maypole is erected.
Opening Hours
The May Festival runs from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm – a classic day festival that can be perfectly combined with a walk along the city wall.
