Anniversary Festival 150 Years Volunteer Fire Brigade Weimersheim with District Fire Brigade Day
In 2026, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Weimersheim celebrates its 150th anniversary – an exceptional milestone for a village fire brigade. Weimersheim is a district of the medieval imperial city of Weißenburg in Bavaria in Middle Franconia, located in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen (WUG) in the Franconian Lake District. The FFW Weimersheim is one of the oldest and best-integrated volunteer fire brigades in the region.
The annual District Fire Brigade Day of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district is integrated into the anniversary celebrations. On the festive Sunday, June 21, 2026, hundreds of active firefighters from the entire district will come to Weimersheim to receive reports from the District Fire Chief, conduct promotions and honors, and participate in the grand parade with friendly fire brigades.
The festival program runs from Thursday, June 18, 2026, to Monday, June 22, 2026, and is broadly designed – fire brigade-specific, social, and cultural program points alternate:
The venue for all program points is the festival tent at the Weimersheim festival grounds – one of the largest temporary festival tents in the district this year. The seating is designed for large crowds; reservations for the main evenings are recommended.
Weimersheim is a typical district of the former Imperial City of Weißenburg in Bavaria, one of the most beautifully preserved Middle Franconian imperial cities. With its Roman roots (Limes UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ellinger Straße, Wülzburg mountain, and proximity to the Brombachsee lake, Weißenburg is also a tourist attraction. The 2026 anniversary festival can be well combined with a multi-day stay in the region.
With its five-day program, the FFW Weimersheim offers a festival that appeals to a different target group each day: remembrance and camaraderie on Thursday, young party guests on Friday, sporty-Franconian on Saturday, tradition-conscious on Sunday, cultural-cabaret on Monday. Thus, the festival becomes a meeting point for different generations and festival cultures.
The highlight is the parade on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with the friendly fire brigades of the WUG district, clubs, music bands, and schools. Afterwards, the District Fire Brigade Day convenes.
