150 Years Volunteer Fire Brigade Weimersheim

In 2026, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Weimersheim celebrates its 150th anniversary – an exceptional milestone for a village fire brigade. Weimersheim is a district of the medieval imperial city of Weißenburg in Bavaria in Middle Franconia, located in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen (WUG) in the Franconian Lake District. The FFW Weimersheim is one of the oldest and best-integrated volunteer fire brigades in the region.

District Fire Brigade Day in the Anniversary Year

The annual District Fire Brigade Day of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district is integrated into the anniversary celebrations. On the festive Sunday, June 21, 2026, hundreds of active firefighters from the entire district will come to Weimersheim to receive reports from the District Fire Chief, conduct promotions and honors, and participate in the grand parade with friendly fire brigades.

Five Days of Festival Program

The festival program runs from Thursday, June 18, 2026, to Monday, June 22, 2026, and is broadly designed – fire brigade-specific, social, and cultural program points alternate:

  • Thursday (18.06.): Memorial service at Weimersheim cemetery for deceased comrades, followed by a formal evening in the festival tent with the "Musikfreunde" – a classic festival start, characterized by remembrance and camaraderie.
  • Friday (19.06.): "Franconian-Bavarian Beer Evening" with the well-known brass and party band BLECHG(L)ANZ and other music acts. The evening is the social highlight for young festival guests.
  • Saturday (20.06.): Altmühlfrankenlauf as a sporting accent, in the evening a variety show with the band Störzelbacher – One & Six.
  • Sunday (21.06.): Festive church service in the festival tent, followed by a grand parade with friendly fire brigades from the entire district, clubs, schools, and music bands. In the afternoon, the District Fire Brigade Day WUG, in the evening dance music with the band Gagi.
  • Monday (22.06.): Anniversary evening "135 Years Weißenburger Tagblatt" with comedian Harry G – a cabaret highlight to conclude the festival.

Festival Tent and Festival Grounds

The venue for all program points is the festival tent at the Weimersheim festival grounds – one of the largest temporary festival tents in the district this year. The seating is designed for large crowds; reservations for the main evenings are recommended.

Weißenburg in Bavaria – Imperial City in the Franconian Lake District

Weimersheim is a typical district of the former Imperial City of Weißenburg in Bavaria, one of the most beautifully preserved Middle Franconian imperial cities. With its Roman roots (Limes UNESCO World Heritage Site), Ellinger Straße, Wülzburg mountain, and proximity to the Brombachsee lake, Weißenburg is also a tourist attraction. The 2026 anniversary festival can be well combined with a multi-day stay in the region.

2026 150th Anniversary Celebration – A Festival Week for Weimersheim

With its five-day program, the FFW Weimersheim offers a festival that appeals to a different target group each day: remembrance and camaraderie on Thursday, young party guests on Friday, sporty-Franconian on Saturday, tradition-conscious on Sunday, cultural-cabaret on Monday. Thus, the festival becomes a meeting point for different generations and festival cultures.

Parade on Festival Sunday

The highlight is the parade on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with the friendly fire brigades of the WUG district, clubs, music bands, and schools. Afterwards, the District Fire Brigade Day convenes.
