Two Days of Wine Enjoyment on the Historic Market Square of the Spa Town
The Uckermark is known as a Brandenburg landscape with forests, lakes, and rolling hills—but certainly not as a wine region. That's precisely what makes the Weinfest Templin so appealing: on two summer evenings in July, winemakers from classic German wine-growing regions—from the Mosel to the Pfalz to Baden—gather on the Historic Market Square of Templin and present their wines amidst medieval half-timbered facades and the completely preserved town wall. An unusual, but particularly atmospheric, setting.
The Templin Town Wall is one of the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Northern Germany—1.7 km long, with three town gates and 54 watchhouses, completely reconstructed. It encloses Templin's old town and forms the backdrop for the market square, which has been a center for trade and festivals for centuries. When the wine stalls are set up in front of the town hall and St. Mary Magdalene Church in early July, Templin residents, Uckermark vacationers, and day-trippers from Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania gather for shared tastings.
The Weinfest 2026 kicks off on Friday, July 3rd, at 6 PM with the official opening. At the stalls, winemakers will present their selections of Riesling, Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder, Silvaner, Weißburgunder, and red wines. On Saturday, July 4th, the program continues all day—with tastings, conversations with winemakers, live music, and culinary offerings including cheese, tarte flambée, antipasti, and Uckermark specialties.
Templin in the Uckermark district is one of Brandenburg's most beautiful small towns. With its completely preserved town wall, Templin Lake, the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, and the thermal brine spa NaturThermeTemplin, the town is an important tourist destination—and the hometown of former Chancellor Angela Merkel, who grew up here. The Weinfest is one of the town's most atmospheric summer festivals and complements Templin's festival program between May (May Festival) and December (Templin Christmas Market).
Those who want to combine the Weinfest with a weekend in the Uckermark will find a wide selection of guesthouses and hotels in Templin—including some directly on the lake. A boat trip on Templin Lake, a visit to the thermal brine spa, and a stroll along the town wall will enhance the wine experience. The organizer is TMT Tourismus-Marketing Templin GmbH, which is responsible for most of Templin's major events.
