City festival at Therese-Giehse-Platz — three days of clubs, gastronomy, and live music
Therese-Giehse-Platz is Germering's municipal festival grounds, named after the renowned Munich actress Therese Giehse (1898-1975). During the city festival, stages are erected here, gastronomic stands are set up, and the square becomes the social center of the town. Its central location makes the city festival accessible to residents from all districts.
The program consists of three pillars: performances and stands from local clubs (sports, music, cultural associations), gastronomic stands with regional and international specialties, and live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. The musical mix ranges from rock and pop to Franconian folk music and world music, reflecting the diversity of Germering's population.
The self-image as an »inclusive and multicultural city festival« is a hallmark of the Germering city festival. Clubs from migrant communities, inclusive sports groups, and senior and youth groups actively participate. This social breadth distinguishes the city festival from purely folkloristic or purely cultural Volksfeste.
Germering is located about 20 km west of Munich in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck and is the largest town in the district with about 40,000 inhabitants. As a commuter town in the Munich metropolitan area's commuter belt, Germering is culturally diverse and socially mixed — the city festival consciously reflects and makes this reality tangible.
The Germering City Festival 2026 opens on Friday, May 15, and closes on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Therese-Giehse-Platz will become a festival mile with several stages, club stands, and gastronomic offerings.
The program includes performances and interactive activities from Germering's sports, music, and cultural clubs, gastronomic stands with regional specialties and international cuisine, as well as live concerts in the evenings. The city festival is an inclusive event — accessible, multilingual, and with program points for families, seniors, and young people alike.
