Traditional fair on the last weekend of August on Sprendlingen's market square in Rheinhessen
For generations, the Sprendlinger Jahrmarkt has been a fixture in the Rheinhessen festival calendar. It takes place every year on the last weekend of August, marking the transition from midsummer to late summer in the Sprendlingen-Gensingen administrative district, located in western Rheinhessen between Bingen and Bad Kreuznach.
The venue is the central market square and the surrounding streets in the center of Sprendlingen. Festival tents are erected here, stages are set up, and stalls are opened. Unlike traditional Kerb events, which are usually organized by individual clubs, the Jahrmarkt is a municipal event with broad participation from the business community, restaurateurs, and local clubs.
The market offerings include stalls with household goods, clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, sweets, and regional specialties. Rides – including carousels, shooting galleries, bumper cars, and smaller roller coasters – give the fair its Volksfest character. For the youngest visitors, there are children's carousels and other child-friendly attractions.
Catering is provided by local clubs and restaurateurs. The focus is on wine from the Sprendlingen vintners, supplemented by beer and classic festival foods such as Bratwurst, steaks, fries, Flammkuchen, Spundekäs, and sweet specialties. Live bands, DJs, and local club performances provide entertainment on stage – the musical offerings range from Schlager and cover bands to dance music and rock.
With its format oscillating between a market and a Volksfest, the Sprendlinger Jahrmarkt is a typical example of Rheinhessen's festival culture: down-to-earth, convivial, with a high degree of volunteer engagement and a clear anchoring in the village community.
The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition of the Sprendlinger Jahrmarkt. Volksfest character with rides, market offerings, wine and beer, and a stage program.
