Traditional fair on the last weekend of August on Sprendlingen's market square in Rheinhessen
For generations, the Sprendlinger Jahrmarkt has been a cornerstone of the Rheinhessen festival calendar. It always takes place on the last weekend of August, marking the transition from high summer to late summer in the Sprendlingen-Gensingen municipality, nestled in western Rheinhessen between Bingen and Bad Kreuznach.
The festival takes over the town center. The main market area and stage are located on the Marktplatz, while the adjacent St. Johanner Straße and Jakob-Hirschmann-Platz host fairground attractions and wine stands. Unlike many local village fairs organized by individual clubs, this is a community-wide event supported by local businesses, restaurateurs, and associations.
The event features market stalls and amusement rides specifically curated for children and teenagers, capturing the true spirit of a traditional folk festival.
Catering is provided by local clubs and tavern owners. The highlight is undoubtedly the wine from Sprendlinger winemakers—Sprendlingen is one of the largest wine-growing communities in Rheinhessen, boasting its own cooperative and sparkling wine cellar. You will also find beer and classic festival food. Live music and performances by local groups keep the atmosphere lively on the main stage.
The Jahrmarkt sits alongside the Maimarkt and the November Martinsmarkt in the local calendar. With its unique mix of market charm and folk festival energy, it is a quintessential example of Rheinhessen culture: down-to-earth, sociable, driven by volunteer spirit, and deeply rooted in the local community.
The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition of the Sprendlinger Jahrmarkt. Volksfest character with rides, market offerings, wine and beer, and a stage program. Participation of local clubs, restaurateurs, and businesses. A meeting point for the Sprendlingen-Gensingen administrative district.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the administrative district in the summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years.
The detailed program for the 2026 fair—including stage performances, daily opening hours, and club presentations—has not yet been released. It will be announced by the municipality of Sprendlingen and local organizations closer to the date; we will update this information as soon as it becomes available.
