Summer Kick-off in the Saarschleifenland

The Merzig Summer Fair marks the cheerful start to the city's summer programme "Merzig spielt auf" every June. The venue for the rides is the car park at the Stadthalle (Zur Stadthalle, 66663 Merzig), and the accompanying flea market takes place in the city centre's pedestrian zone. The event is organised by Stadtmarketing Merzig.

What Makes the Summer Fair Special

At the Stadthalle car park, showmen set up rides, carousels, shooting galleries, game stalls, and food stands. Families with children will find classics like the chain carousel, dodgems, Ferris wheel, and smaller rides for youngsters. In parallel, food stalls offering classic fairground fare line the streets – bratwurst, Schwenker (grilled meat skewers), Lyoner (sausage), and sweets from almonds to candy floss.

Flea Market in the Pedestrian Zone

During the fair days, a flea market stretches through Merzig's city centre. Traders offer clothing, household goods, leather goods, toys, sweets, spices, and much more – "a diverse selection from A to Z to browse and discover," as Stadtmarketing puts it.

Sunday Shopping

Sunday is family day – and also a Sunday shopping event. Merzig's city centre shops open their doors, allowing visitors to combine their fair visit with a relaxed Sunday stroll.

Merzig — Gateway to the Saarschleifenland

Merzig is the district capital of the Landkreis Merzig-Wadern and is strategically located in the Saarschleifenland, one of the most scenic regions of Saarland. The city boasts a historic town centre, a large city park with a wolf park, and the nearby Cloef plateau overlooking the famous Saarschleife (Saar loop). Visitors to the Summer Fair can conveniently round off their day with a walk in the city park or a trip to the Saarschleife.

Decades of Tradition

The Summer Fair is a firm fixture in Merzig's event calendar, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the district capital each year. It is considered one of the traditional funfairs in western Saarland.
