Two days of international street food variety in the heart of Merzig
Behind the Streetfood Festival in Merzig is the UrbanFood Family, a nationally established street food catering collective that organizes festivals in several cities. In Merzig, the event, in cooperation with Stadtmarketing Merzig, is part of the Merzig spielt auf series, with which the city distributes summer highlights throughout the city center every year.
Instead of the usual Volksfest (traditional folk festival) mix of bratwurst and fries, the festival focuses on a curated selection: food trucks and stands from all over Germany, each with its own unique style. What makes it charming is that many vendors are active at festivals in Cologne, Munich, or Berlin throughout the year and come to the Saarland to showcase regional flavors that might be less known.
Expect:
The parking lot at the Stadthalle offers enough space for long banquet tables, deck chairs, and a quiet area for families. The organizers focus on a relaxed atmosphere — no stage noise, but background music that doesn't interfere with conversations about food. This is precisely what defines the format: food is the focus, not headliners.
Merzig is located on the Saar River, in the western Saarland, near the Luxembourgish and French borders. The city is the administrative seat of the Merzig-Wadern district and the gateway to the Saarschleife (Saar Loop), one of Germany's most popular excursion destinations. Visitors should combine their trip with a weekend stay – perhaps with a hike at the Cloef-Atrium or a visit to the Wolfspark Werner Freund (Wolf Park Werner Freund).
As in previous years, the Streetfood Festival will take place in the parking lot of the Merzig Stadthalle — a central location, easily accessible, with plenty of space for long tables and deck chairs. The exact list of exhibitors will be published a few weeks before the festival on the UrbanFood Family's channels.
The final list of participating food trucks will be announced at the end of June 2026 on urbanfoodfamily.de and via the channels of the City of Merzig (merzig.de).
