Palatinate Carnival Parade on Shrove Tuesday with subsequent closing party in the Kulturfesthalle Waldsee
The Waldsee Carnival Parade is one of the traditional carnival events in the Rheinauen municipality, which, together with Mutterstadt, Neuhofen, and Altrip, shapes a lively Shrove Tuesday in southern Vorderpfalz. The police have consistently given a positive assessment of the parades in the four municipalities in recent years.
Precisely at 1:33 PM – a typical carnival time – the carnival parade gets underway. Floats, walking groups, music bands, and guards from Waldsee and the neighboring carnival strongholds march through the city center. Sweets, "Strüssjer" (small bouquets), and promotional gifts are thrown into the crowd, and children eagerly collect the thrown items. Carnival-goers in colorful costumes line the parade route.
For the duration of the parade and the subsequent street carnival, parts of the Waldsee city center will be closed to traffic – approximately from 12:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The Rheinauen municipality will inform residents and road users in a timely manner about the exact closures and diversions.
After the end of the parade, the main crowd of carnival-goers moves to the Kulturfesthalle Waldsee, where the closing party of the Palatinate carnival season takes place – with free admission. DJs provide mood music, carnival classics, and dancing, while food stalls offer Palatinate specialties and drinks. The hall becomes the last major meeting point for Palatinate carnival enthusiasts before Ash Wednesday.
The carnival clubs of the Rheinauen municipality cultivate their own carnival tradition, which differs from the Rhenish carnival culture and is strongly rooted in the Palatinate dialect and village customs. The Waldsee Carnival Parade is part of this tradition and a meeting point for carnival fans from Waldsee, Altrip, Otterstadt, Speyer, and the surrounding municipalities.
The 2026 edition promises to be another highlight of the Palatinate carnival season in the Rheinauen region. Thousands of carnival-goers are expected, who will first experience the parade and then celebrate the closing party in the Kulturfesthalle. The Rheinauen municipality and Waldsee's carnival clubs organize the festival on a voluntary basis.
